Oregon Ability Partnerships

The Oregon Department of Education, Office of Special Education is responsible to ensure that students with disabilities benefit from an enhanced education system - the Oregon Advantage.

In the summer of 2002, a few parents approached OrPTI and ODE/OSE with a request for funding to design and build a database and website for Oregon families of children with disabilities, in order to provide a central repository for resources. Beginning in October 2002, ODE generously agreed to provide start-up funding for such a project. Much of the foundation and infrastructure of Oregon Ability have been created through the financial support from ODE Office of Special Education to the Oregon Parent Training and Information Center, for which we are most grateful.

Oregon Parent Training and Information Center's mission is to educate and support parents, families, and professionals in building partnerships that meet the needs of children and youth with disabilities.

As the sponsoring organization of the project, OrPTI has played a vital role in bringing Oregon Ability into existence.
